Vedanta has been practising yoga since 1981 & teaching since 2008. She has completed her 3 year Diploma of Satyananda Yoga Training & is an acredited Level 2 Yoga Teacher. She is passionate about the benefits of yoga in everyday life & lives by the yogic creed of kindness & compassion.
Vedanta has had many different kinds of jobs in her life, and various roles. She loved being a Mum to two strong-minded daughters; was challenged as a primary school teacher; flourished as a social researcher and then an Academic at Queensland University of Technology, and University of Queensland; and was a carer for people with dementia for over 6 years, before pursuing her love of yoga.
Vedanta loves bush-walking, dancing, classical music, and is now learning to play the piano. Studying and reading are where she spends most of her spare time, and these days her shelves are filled with books on various aspects of yoga, though books about animals have been known to sneak in every now again!
Apart from yoga, her greatest passion is animals. She has a ginger cat and two enthusiastic poodle-crosses, and supports numerous charities that aim to improve the lives of animals – whether domestic, farm or wild – including Animals Australia, Borneo Orangutan Survival (Indonesia), PETA, The Animal Justice Party (Australia).
She believes she was guided to the Central Coast ten years ago because there were so few yoga teachers here at that time. Even, though there are now many yoga teachers on the Coast, her focus remains classical/traditional yoga.
